Telephones - Easiest and the Best Way Available to Communicate

In the ancient times, it was not easy for every human being to convey their important messages to their loved one's living far from their place. And, people used to send letters or telegram to convey their messages to their loved ones and to stay in touch with them, but this process of communicating used to take long time, and this prompted the hunger to discover something instrumental, which will help in shortening the long distance, time, and which can help us to easily convey our messages to anyone. And this hunger of human beings eventually led to the invention of a Telephone.

Telephone is a telecommunication device which is widely used by human beings to communicate with their loved ones or to their business or professional associates. The telephone was invented in March 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born inventor, scientist and a teacher. He used to teach deaf people. He invented the Telephone with a famous incident in which he spilled the acid on himself and then called out to his assistant, Watson, and did not realize that his voice is being carried over the telephone. On 30 January 1877, the invention of telephone was patented by Graham Bell.

However, it has been almost 133 years, since it was invented and now the technology has come far across, and as telephones have become the easiest and the best available way to communicate and stay in touch with our loved ones, plenty of new telephones have been launched in the market, which can be easily purchased. Some of the new telephones which are available in the phone market are Basic telephones, Cordless telephones, which can be easily carried away along with us in a limited range, while communicating.

Basic Telephones are the phones which are widely used in homes, because they always stay attached with a wire, and cannot be moved here and there. Basic telephones are also called as fixed line phone or home phones. Basic telephones are also of many types like some telephones comes with a LCD screen, which flashes the caller's number in it, in other words it is also called as Caller Id phones.

Cordless Phones are the phones which gives us the freedom from wires, as its handset does not need any wire to let us communicate through it, because it uses radio waves to stay connected with its basic station. However, a cordless phone's basic station always stays attached with a wire. And it also has an internal battery which needs to be recharged in a particular time, which eventually helps to let you communicate for a longer period of time. Currently, the widely used cordless phones are DECT ones, which is also called as Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication technology. With Cordless phones, anyone can talk to their loved ones and can also walk at the same point of time to stay healthy and fit. However, the Cordless phones works in a limited range of its basic station. These phones too, have a LCD display screen, which flashes the caller's telephone number.

Gaming Headsets

Headsets or headphones are actually miniature speaker systems. They are stereo hearing systems that are wearable, providing mobility to the user. Traditional headsets were bulky and large with two speakers for both ears encased in padded ovular ear cups. These ear cups were attached to a headband in the shape of an arch that went over the head. Each of these ear cups had a signal wire joined down together as a single wire, which was connected to the audio player/radio through a headphone jack.

Today, normal headsets can't match the excitement generated by computer games. To feel the real action you need a headset that delivers the right acoustics and sound effects to make the game sound real. Modern gaming headsets have stereo sound effects to suit the high-definition audio that most games have. Plus, they are lightweight and comfortable, with flexible and unobtrusive wiring to wear for longer hours. There are also cordless gaming handsets.

The basic aspects to be considered while buying a headset are: is it comfortable? Does it stay securely in place for long hours? Is the microphone flexible and unobtrusive? Is the cord long enough for easy movement? Are the volume and other controls easily accessible? Is the sound quality on both the lines clear?

The leading manufacturers of gaming headsets are Plantronics, GN Netcom, Headsets.com, Sennheiser, Jabra, and Sony. Gaming headsets are also very inexpensive, depending on the kind of model. A good pair of headphones costs around though a model with all the works may cost up to 0-0 or more. The Internet is a good source for locating the ideal gaming headset. There are several web sites that provide comprehensive information about the wide range of gaming headsets available in the market today.

Headsets provides detailed information about headsets, wireless headsets, phone headsets, aviation headsets and more. Headsets is the sister site of Free Phone Conferencing.

Internet Phones

Not all internet phones are the same. Learn how to make a smart choice.

There are many reasons to acquire an internet phone. One could be that you need to call over seas and the best way to do that without spending a fortune is using the internet phone. Another is that the cost and features of using an internet phone are excellent compared to many phone services. In addition, the phones are very user friendly and most can have you up and making phone calls in a matter of minutes.

Internet phones are actually VOIP phones. This stands for voice over internet protocol technology. Basically, this means that these phones take your voice and turn it into a data package which is then sent over the internet to other internet users or to a landline or cell phone.

There are many features of VOIP phones and different services have different technology that comes with them. Most internet phone services require that you have speakers and a microphone ready to go for the computer in addition to the VOIP service.

The easiest way to make use of this new technology is buying an internet phone. The range of options and styles of internet phones are astounding. These phones are set up to function best for VOIP services. These internet phones come in corded and cordless as well as a headset.

The desktop internet phones have many features such as three way calling and speakerphone as well as hold and speed dialing.

The internet phone headsets plug into a USB port and are ready to go as soon as you set the microphone settings on your computer.

With the advent of VOIP technology, making long distance calls or out of country calls has gotten cheaper and easier to do. If you are interested in being able to call anywhere anytime for free or pennies compared to what other services are charging, then the internet phone is the way to go.

Uniden EZI996 900 MHz Extended Range Cordless Telephone Specifications

If you're missing calls because you can't hear the phone ring, and if you don't find much comfort in those annoying (and tiny) blinking lights that aren't much help from across the room, consider the Uniden EZI-996. The practical design helps solve a number of problems for users with minor sight or hearing challenges.

Two large red lights on the base indicate when the phone is ringing and when you have a voicemail message--and they're large enough to see more clearly from a distance. A belt clip is included, so you can keep the handset with you as you walk around the house. You can also keep your hearing aid connected and wear the handset comfortably at your waist. Separate controls adjust the ringer and the handset volume, and a handset indicator sound helps you locate the unit if you've lost it in the couch cushions. The keypad is backlit and has large buttons, making it easier to see when dialing.

The EZI-996 operates with a reliable 900 MHz transmission and tried-and-true analog technology. With subscription to service through your local phone company, the 30-station caller ID tracks your recent calls and returns them at the touch of a button. A separate 10-station memory stores your most frequently dialed numbers, with a one-touch dial for an emergency contact. Uniden includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

What You Need To Know About Cordless Phones With an Answering Machine

The invention of cordless phones gives a lot of benefits and convenience to telephone users. Since it is wireless, you can bring the phone in any part of the house or offices without any hassle. You can freely roam around and do household chores or get some stuff done while you are on the phone. When manufacturers have come up with cordless phones with answering machine, it makes our lives even easier and more comfortable.

You can enjoy the handiness of a cordless phone plus the benefit of an answering machine where you can quickly check your messages. When choosing your cordless phones with answering machine, it is very important to know and understand what is that you need to know about the product.

First thing that you have to consider is the frequency of the device. Cordless phones with answering machines come in three different frequencies. Among the three, it is best to choose the one that comes in 1.9GHZ band since this is exclusive for cordless phones thus it reduces the interferences accumulation. Most of our household devices such as microwaves, routers and other wireless equipments run in 2.4GHZ frequency.

Using cordless device of the same channel may increase the risk of getting more obstruction. It is equally important also to ensure that your wireless phone will give you high quality of audio output to make your communication process clear and precise. The range of your cordless device should be check as well. Especially if you have a bigger area, you have to make sure that your cordless phone can cater your call even at a distant.

For office set up or household with large number of family members, getting a cordless phone with more than two handsets provides more ease. You need not to wait for your turn when somebody is making a call. And for added security, it is best to purchase a digital phone over an analog phone. Analog phone sets are more prone to hackers and your call can be easily tapped and heard on the other line while a digital phone offers more security in your communication line. It will be so annoying to know that your neighbors overheard your conversation. Choosing a phone with backlit features and easy to use keys is also necessary. This is to avoid mistake when dialing.

Though most cordless phones with answering machine have caller ID option, it is good to be sure that your equipment has this ability so that you won't miss any message even when you are away. The one that comes with a headset jacks will be a great choice too. Getting the best battery type is another thing that you need to know. Experts suggest that it is better to use a LI-ON battery over the other type because it drains very slowly thus making the life of your battery longer. And when charging your battery, do it when it is empty and do not charge it very often to optimize its usage and make it last long.

Cordless phone that comes with an answering machine does not only offer ease and convenience but it is an economical choice too. You can enjoy the features of two devices merge into one at a price that will give you big savings.

How the Times Have Changed Technologically

I was travelling to office from my home at Mumbai. I took an AC bus for the extra comfort. The bus usually crowded was surprising almost empty at this hour. As I entered and moved ahead towards my seat, I saw a little kid [probably around 10 yrs old] holding a book-like thing and fiddling with it. On a closer look, I realized that was not a book...IT WAS AN IPAD!! A 10 year old kid playing on an iPad! How the times have changed I thought. . .

Thinking about it, its so true. They say times were much simpler when Orange and BlackBerry where just fruits We have come such a long way, from when the cell phone was of the size of a cordless phone and belonged only to the elite to a time when a device worth more than a phone is easily handled by a kid! One of the 1st cell phones!

I still remember the times when the cell phone had arrived in India. People were charged for incoming calls as well back then. Outgoing call rates were high and you had to think whether you actually need to make the call before you make one. The phone was one of the 1st cell phones almost too big to fit in a pocket. Touch would only refer to the human sensation back then. Nowadays Touch means HTC Wildfire, Nokia 5800, Sony Xperia etc. Another ancient device was the Pager! Which has been conveniently replaced by SMS in mobile phones and Tweets on the Internet!

Times have changed from the monitory standpoint as well. Salaries in the 1970s would range from a few hundreds to 1 or 2 grand. A salary figure in thousands would clearly signify richness. There wasn't modern technology back then. Life wasn't simple, work wise. But wasn't it much more simpler. . .life wise? A small family, a daily job, an income to sustain the family, having dinner with the family being close to you family and relatives. Being a child and playing outdoors, running around and having fun.

What if you could escape everything and go back? Maybe the 70s is too old to go back. But what about your childhood. The times when the most of us were the happiest. School sucked yes, but we dint have so many worries and responsibilities back then. Technology wasn't much used then as it is now. What if you could forget you work troubles, the tension of deadlines, the pressure of submissions, the worry of payscale and the absence of job satisfaction. . . and go back to those times. Maybe only for a day, would you go back to the simple life so void of technology. Would you survive a day without email, without instant messaging, without your quadcore proc PC or without your 7 inch touch tablet. All these things wouldn't be there, but would you really miss it? What would rather have: enjoy the advances of technology at your fingertips OR enjoy the simplicity of childhood. . .I think I'd gladly choose the latter. The times have changed and I want to go back!

Sometimes I wonder, technology is moving ahead so fast and new devices are being made existing ones are getting smaller with added functionality.

Technology will never stop. We shall keep growing old with the simultaneous advent of new technology. And soon enough we''ll be too old to enjoy it. Kids then, would be so advanced, with all the gadgets they'd have and the new ones they'd get. And for some reason, stupid or not it worries me about how I'd feel when that happens when a kid would use new technology and rub it in cause I'd be too old to be able to use the same. . . How would you feel?

Home Office Productivity Improved Using Wireless Intercom System

One of the most frustrating things about working from home is when you're on an important phone call and the door bell rings. Then you have to decide whether to put the call on hold and make the journey to the front door for what could very well just be the neighbor girl selling cookies.

The trip to the front door really isn't the worst of it. It's the interruption to your concentration that causes a drop in your productivity. If whoever is at the door is a sales person or a pizza delivery person for a pizza you didn't order, then you may add a little anger on top of your interrupted concentration.

Once you get rid of the distraction and head back to your office, now you have to get back in the mode of concentration you were previously in. This is not always an easy task, especially if you're still angry.

One solution to this problem is to add an intercom system with a door phone to your residence. If you're building a new home, you can easily add the wires to do this before the walls are closed. Unfortunately, it's much more expensive to do this for existing houses, condos, or town homes.

That's where a wireless intercom system works nicely as long as the system is totally wireless. That means you don't have to run power or any other wires to the units at the front door or on your desk.

You also want a system that provides digital security so neighbors with similar units or cordless phones can't listen to your conversations. Many digital systems also provide quieter operation so you won't have any static noise drowning out your conversation.

The system you choose must have a waterproof outdoor wireless door intercom unit available so you can talk to whoever is at the door. If you have a larger house, or one with walls that could block the transmission signal, you'll want a long range system.

Some systems even let you add a remote door lock control, which is nice if you want a delivery person to just slide a package in the front door.

By installing a wireless intercom system you can quickly run off sales people with barely a break in your concentration. That improves your productivity...not to mention lowers the stress caused by being angry for having someone make you walk all the way to the front door for nothing.

Cordless Phone Digital Answering Machine

Even in the days of cell phones, many people find it convenient and downright necessary to have a landline. Instead of burning up those cell phone minutes, pick up your home phone and dial away. Almost every company these days has unlimited long distance calling associated with their land line plans. This is of course good for the consumer.

Many companies are building cordless phones with a built in digital answering machine. These cordless phone systems have two hand sets and two bases for charging. At one of the bases, there is a digital answering machine built into the unit. They are generally simple and easy to use. If you spend a lot of time on the phone each day working from home, these little units are indispensable. When one handset goes dead, throw it on the charger and grab another.

Let's take a look at some of the units on the market today. Hopefully this will help you pick the model that is right for our specific application and fits into your price range. Since there are plenty of them out there, it is best to arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible about the specific brands.

AT&T EL52209: This is your basic entry level model. Listing at around .00 this unit boasts voice clarity using the latest DECT technology. It offers the features that most people want such as Caller ID, and Voicemail Indicator. The drawback to this unit is that it lacks a headset jack and can only accommodate three handsets. So if you want to expand and use multiple headsets, with this unit you will only be able to add one.

The Panasonic KX-TG1032S is the next phone up on the block and gets the best ratings from both experts and people that own the phone. Starting at around .00 this phone features the very latest in DECT Technology which means that you will not get any interference from your WI-FI network or any other home electronic gadget. It does have a headset jack, and this unit can accommodate up to six headsets that cost about .00 each. This phone also has higher end models that feature talking caller ID and those phones rate high also.

The Radio Shack 43-140 cordless phone is rated as the best cordless phone for people with hearing or vision difficulties. Most users say they can hear everything loud and clear on this phone. It also has flashing lights when it is ringing, big buttons that light up, and talking caller id. It includes a corded phone on the base and one cordless handset. The only drawback to this phone is that you can not add more handsets to the system. Another drawback is that it does not employ DECT Technology. It uses the old 5.8 GHz

System, but we found very few user complaints.

This should give you a good starting point for purchasing a cordless phone with a digital answering machine. There are many variations on every phone, and with a little research you can find the one that best suits your needs. DECT 6.0 - Cordless Phones That Meet the Hype

You've likely heard the ballyhoo after every major cordless phone technology update. This Megahertz and that Gigahertz were all supposed to provide incredible range and amazing clarity. Well, the new-to-the-U.S. DECT cordless phone technology (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications or 1.9 GHz) really does live up to the hype. Although all DECT 6.0 cordless phones are not created equal, most DECT phone models provide a winning balance between exceptional voice clarity and suitable-to-fantastic range.

Why is DECT so special?
Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications is nothing more than a digital wireless communication technology that operates at 1.9 GHz. It's popular with manufacturers (a good thing for consumers) because it's a global standard, enabling them to produce fewer models to satisfy the needs of all countries. In general and all other technology components being equal, the lower the frequency, the longer the physical range you'll get with your cordless phone. Phones that operate at lower frequencies (remember your old 49 MHz cordless phone from 1988) are also prone to much more interference, which significantly reduces voice clarity. When manufacturers launched phones at the higher frequencies, the opposite occurred as you might expect. Voice clarity improved dramatically with digital 5.8 GHz models, but physical range became a genuine problem.....especially in all the growing number of McMansions in the U.S. Some DECT 6.0 cordless phones can get up to 1000 ft of range from the base outdoors.

Though frequency is only one feature to examine in the search for a cordless phone, a DECT 6.0 phone is the best bet in today's cordless phone market as long as all included features meet your needs. It's also dedicated to cordless communication in residential, commercial and public environments, so you're unlikely to be interfering with other home electronics. Besides premium voice quality and extended range, DECT technology is inherently more efficient with battery life. It's not uncommon to see some DECT models with up to 12 hours of talk time, which can be ideal for those who work at home.

Which DECT Phone to Select?
First and foremost, look for a global brand you can trust. Because DECT is a global standard - where launching a U.S. product is much less expensive than in the past, you'll see lots of "import brands" hitting the market. Price points vary depending on brand and features, but most DECT phones are at the same or lower cost than the 5.8 GHz phones they're succeeding. Consider your usage as well. Will you be using the phone in a home office where you'll need a headset jack? Surprisingly, only some DECT models have included a headset jack. Will you need multiple handsets? While most models are expandable, be cautious that a few are locked into the one included handset. There are many more features available, but most DECT phones handle core functionality (excellent voice quality and good range) really well. Look for reviews and comparisons online and consider asking your retailer for recommendations.

Using a Bluetooth Headset with your PC

Bluetooth

For those of you not familiar with the term, Bluetooth refers to a wireless protocol (or set of rules) designed for short range electronic applications (usually less than 30 feet in distance). Although the technology has been around for several years, Bluetooth support for PC users has been limited due to hardware manufacturers focusing on the more traditional 802.11 wireless network protocols (wifi). In reality, Bluetooth and wifi achieve different purposes and each has its pros and cons.

Cellular Telephone Bluetooth Headsets

The cellular telephone community has long embraced Bluetooth technology, developing and refining numerous wireless devices. One of the more popular Bluetooth applications for cellular telephones has been cordless headsets which enable users to leave their telephone in their bag or pocket while still being able to make and receive calls. Bluetooth headsets are generally very lightweight, worn over one ear and achieve talk times from 1-4 hours before needing a recharge.

Bluetooth PC Headset?

So if cellular telephone users have warmly embraced Bluetooth headsets, why not the PC community? At the time of writing, this author knows of no PC hardware manufacturer who has designed a Bluetooth Headset primarily for use with a PC. However, there is nothing to prevent a PC user from using a cellular phone Bluetooth Headset with their PC. Keep in mind though, these headsets were originally envisioned for cellular phone use and may need a bit of 'tweaking' before they'll perform as well as 'corded' headsets on your computer.

USB Bluetooth Adapter

Unless you own a relatively expensive notebook PC, odds are that your computer doesn't natively support the Bluetooth protocol. If this is the case, you'll need an 'Adapter' or 'Dongle' in order to make your computer 'Bluetooth enabled'. Bluetooth adapters are generally very small (a few inches long) and insert into a vacant USB port on your computer. When purchasing an adapter it's critical that you buy one that supports the 'headset protocol'. The headset protocol is merely a set of rules which enables your Bluetooth adapter to communicate with and make use of Bluetooth headsets in its vicinity. If your adapter does not support the headset protocol, no amount of 'tweaking' will get your headset working with your PC. Adapters generally run between - USD and can be purchased at most PC retailers.

Buying a Bluetooth Headset

Bluetooth headsets for cellular phones are generally very expensive when compared with conventional 'corded' PC headsets. Depending on where you buy your headset, you could spend anywhere from to 0+ USD. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive headset that'll simply enable you to make wireless VoIP calls using your PC, I recommend looking on Ebay. Although prices vary considerably on Ebay between merchants for similar products, overall they are considerably less expensive than purchasing the same headset from a telephone store. A word of caution about Ebay though; ensure that you read the fine print associated with shipping costs. Some Ebay merchants advertise Bluetooth Headsets for USD however the real cost quickly rises to + when you account for their often exorbitant shipping charges.

'Pairing' the Headset with your PC

Once your computer is 'Bluetooth enabled' and you've obtained a Bluetooth headset, you'll need to 'pair' the headset with your computer in order to use it for VoIP applications. This is usually just a matter of setting your headset in 'discovery mode' and allowing your PC to 'search' or 'discover' Bluetooth devices. The steps needed to enable discovery mode on your headset and adapter will vary between devices and should be clearly explained in the documentation accompanying your devices.

Adjusting your Audio Settings

Depending on your hardware and operating system, you may need to make adjustments to your audio settings after the headset is 'paired' with your PC. In the Windows operating system, this will involve accessing 'Audio Properties' through the 'Control Panel' and setting the audio and voice devices to your newly paired Bluetooth headset. Again, adjusting these settings should be covered in the documentation accompanying both your headset and Bluetooth adapter.

Once you're up and running, you'll wonder why you didn't adopt this wireless headset solution sooner. The freedom to wander away from your computer whilst maintaining voice over Internet conversations is something you'll come to appreciate and love.

How to Choose the Best Wireless Intercom System For Your Home Or Business

When deciding to add a new wireless intercom system to the ever increasing portfolio of wireless devices in your home or business, you need to first think about the compatibility with the products you already have (or your close neighbors have). You also need to consider the range and features you need.

Wireless Intercom Frequencies

In the United States there are several frequency ranges for wireless products for unlicensed consumer use. They are 49MHz, 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz, and Family Radio Service (FRS) band. Most recently the FCC added the Multi-Use Radio (MURS) service. Radio frequencies for devices are similar in Canada, but MURS cannot be used there.

Back when consumer wireless products were first introduced, these wireless products used the 49MHz frequency spectrum. Early cordless telephones used this spectrum and it is still used by cheap baby monitors and other low-end wireless units. It has a short range and is prone to lots of interference. You won't likely find wireless intercom systems that use this spectrum anymore, or if you do, you won't want them.

Later, 900 MHz products using analog transmission technology arrived on the market. Neither the 49MHz or these early 900Mhz products have any form of security. Anyone with a device in the same frequency can listen in to conversations. Newer digital spread spectrum 900MHz products divide digital transmission across a range of frequencies so other devices can't eavesdrop on your conversations. Digital spread spectrum intercoms also have a greater range than the analog 900Mhz units. There are at least two wireless intercoms currently on the market, but only one of them uses digital spread spectrum. The wireless intercom system that uses spread spectrum can communicate up to 1000 feet.

2.4GHz devices were next to market. There are a growing number of cordless telephones and other devices in this range. As far as intercom systems, video intercom systems are the primary users of this range although the only wireless video intercom on the market was recently discontinued. 2.4GHz is also the frequency range used by WiFi wireless data networks (802.11B/G) in homes and businesses so products in this range can interfere with each other.

The Family Radio Service (462-467MHz) is in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band and is basically an improvement to the old walkie talkies of long ago. These handheld radios are sold everywhere and used heavily so any intercom systems in this range would have to compete with these handheld radios (and anyone can listen in to your conversations). There are no known wireless intercoms systems that use FRS.

Now 5.8GHz products are starting to make their appearance in the cordless phone arena. No compatibility issues exist between 5.8GHz and 2.4GHz devices so no problems should be experienced in mixing them. However, there are currently no known wireless intercom systems in this range.

You'll also see some intercom systems that claim to be wireless but they really use the power wiring in your home or business to send and receive transmissions from the intercom. These are frequently called "FM wireless intercoms" even though they often transmit over your house wiring in the AM band. To use them, you just plug an AC adapter into the wall. These systems are very prone to humming or buzzing and are not recommended unless you are prepared to live with this possibility. Since house wiring comes in as 240 volts and is split in two phases of 120, you'll also experience problems with the signal trying to cross the phases. One part of your house or business may work fine, where the other half doesn't. These intercoms are typically the least expensive intercoms of the bunch.

Long Range Wireless Intercoms

The most recent addition to the wireless intercom market are products in the MURS frequency range. MURS is a service in the VHF (Very High Frequency) 150 MHz radio spectrum. MURS has a power increase of four times that of FRS radio. And unlike FRS, you can add a larger or external antenna to improve range. If you want to put an antenna on top of your house, you can do it with MURS. Some antenna manufacturers claim an external antenna can increase the effective radiated power of a transmitter by a factor of 4. These MURS intercoms can transmit up to four miles, and perhaps more with an external antenna.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States does not require you obtain a license to use MURS frequencies so you will not have to go through that process.

There are 5 MURS channels and 38 interference eliminator or "quiet codes" that can be used on each of these channels. These quiet codes keep your radios quiet unless another radio is programmed on the same channel and quiet code. Chances are you won't have to worry about these codes since MURS usage is extremely light. There are only a few makers of MURS radios, so traffic on these frequencies is hard to find in most areas.

The MURS Intercom system is the wireless intercom you need if you have a large property or you need to talk between buildings. You can use a MURS to not only communicate within a home, but to neighboring homes as well. You can even add a handheld unit to your MURS intercom system so you can stay in touch away from your home.

Long Range Wireless Outdoor Intercoms

You can also get commercial-grade wireless call boxes that communicate with two way radios and base station intercoms. These wireless callboxes are water resistant and designed for outdoor use. They can open gates or doors remotely if you have a model with a gate relay. Callboxes also come in vandal-proof housings with stainless steel front panels. The range on these is up to a mile or more if you use an external antenna. These wireless call boxes can be battery powered, powered with a AC-DC converter, or by solar power. Callboxes are available in UHF and VHF frequencies so you can match them with your existing two way radios if you have them. You can get call boxes that work in the un-licensed MURS frequencies so you can use them with your MURS intercoms or radios.

The benefit of a wireless callbox is that you save money by not having to do trenching and running expensive cable to the unit. You also don't have to pay any air-time or telephone service fees with these wireless systems. Another benefit is that since the unit is wireless, people monitoring the units can carry handheld radios that communicate with the callbox. That allows your monitoring people to be mobile.

Wireless Intercom Features

Another thing to consider is what features you need for your particular application. Commercial applications often have needs for a wider variety of features. The MURS wireless system for instance has a wide variety of products that can be used with it. Not only can you get military-grade two-way radios with lots of headset options, but you can get base station intercoms, wireless call boxes with solar power option, wireless public address systems, customer service call boxes, wireless remote switches, and motion detector devices. For less commercial or residential use, a 900MHz intercom system has outdoor intercoms and doorbell intercoms you can use with your indoor intercoms.

So the wireless intercom system you choose depends on the application you have, the wireless devices already in your home or business, the range you need to cover, as well as your budget. But, once you choose the right system, you'll be able to enjoy the convenience a wireless intercom system provides for years to come.
